Columbia Township, located on the Northwest border of Tuscola County, is blessed with nearly 24,000 acres (38 square miles) of prime agricultural land. The township includes the Village of Unionville and has a population of 1,419 as of the 2010 census.  Columbia Township is a quiet, rural community that is within close proximity to many major cities such as Caro, Bay City, and Saginaw areas.  It falls within the school districts of Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools, Akron-Fairgrove Schools, Cass City Schools, Owendale-Gagetown Schools, and Caro Schools.

 
The Township of Columbia was organized of December 31, 1855 taking part of Indianfields Township and designating it as Columbia, in honor of Columbia, Pennsylvania, from where many of the early settlers had come.  Upon establishment, it included the settlements of Colling, Ashmore, Colwood, Columbia Corners and Unionville.

TOWNSHIP OF COLUMBIA NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING PROPOSED CAREGIVER CULTIVATION OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA AND HIGH AMPERAGE ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT PLEASE BE NOTIFIED that the Columbia Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, the 20th day of July 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbia Township Hall at 6456 Center St., Unionville, MI 48767. 

  The purpose of this public hearing will be to consider a proposed Caregiver Cultivation of Medical Marijuana and High Amperage Zoning Ordinance Amendment for the Township of Columbia. Copies of the proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment may be obtained from the Township Clerk by calling 989/280-9602. All interested persons are encouraged to attend this public hearing. Any opinions you have on the proposed amendment can be presented at the public hearing or may be submitted in writing to the Township Clerk at the above address prior to the hearing.
